Christopher Clauss

Lessons Learned

the loose thread

we pull

thinking each time

it will not unravel a seam

it will not make a hole

I can fix this simple thing

and then

the reminder always

moments too late

there were no extra threads

in this garment

even this loose filament

once served a purpose

we do our best

to mend the damage

learn our lesson

tug the next loose thread we find

with equal confidence

Christopher Clauss is a full-time daddy, husband, & science teacher who transforms at twilight into a performance poet, tooth fairy, Easter bunny, and Santa (no relation). His poetry flows from the passions and tensions that come with teaching and nurturing a family in rural New England.
